That shit is real and it sucks!

For me, imposter syndrome has hit me hard recently. I'm still in my first year of business, I'm part-time, I don't have a consistent editing style, I don't book consistently, I want to try so many new things but don't feel like I can, I doubt myself and if I'll be successful with photography...
Everywhere I look there is another photographer/photography business. I've had moments of feeling lost and frustrated.
How the heck am I meant to stand out in an already extremely saturated market?!

I still feel this way at times... I have also learnt that it's way more common than we let on... Which is sad to hear but in a weird way it's also kind of re-assuring.
Knowing that others often feel as if they aren't good enough or feel as though they aren't being authentic and trying to fit the social mould.

A few things that I've found that help me are to:

  • Sit down & remind myself WHY I started my photography business. I write it down, whether it's in my phone notes or down on paper, I always write it down.
  • Look at where I started compared to where I am now. What have I achieved in that time? How many amazing clients have entrusted me to capture their amazing lives? I find the evidence that supports my why!
  • I hold myself accountable. If I say I'm going to do something, I do it. (Don't get me wrong, it's not 100% of the time and that's okay. It takes consistency but I know it starts now.)
I've found holding myself accountable also prevents me from over-committing and allows me to prioritise my to-do's. This has been really helpful for my productivity!

These are what works for me, that doesn't necessarily mean they will work for you. But, how can you take these tips & mould them to suit you?

Imposter syndrome sucks and we all experience it at some point in our lives. But that doesn't mean we really are faking it, it doesn't mean we are on the wrong path, it doesn't mean we are bad people... It just means we have to remind ourselves WHY we started on this journey and all the freaking amazing stuff we have accomplished so far! Because it's there, you just have to remember it!

I believe in you!

Tamara & Samual Engagement Session - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/11/tamara-samual-engagement-session---paige-pearson-photography Earlier this year, I booked Tamara & Samual for their wedding in August 2022.

Lockdown hit and their engagement session had to be postponed. We finally managed to find another suitable date & made our way to the beautiful Redhead Beach at sunset.

Tamara & Samual were initially quite nervous to be in-front of the camera, claiming they both were not photogenic. I reassured them and once on location, we chatted and Tamara later told me they immediately felt at ease and excited.

We had a beautiful sunny afternoon, with a gorgeous golden sunset behind us. We were all excited to have fun & embrace the session!

Tamara & Samual walked along the water, snuggled close, Tamara flashed her gorgeous ring & they laughed like a young couple in-love. It really was such a calm and beautiful vibe.

I know I definitely have a favourite from their session... Take a look below!

Real Talk: Unsupportive People/Family - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/11/real-talk-unsupportive-people/family---paige-pearson-photography When I told family and friends I was starting a part-time photography business, I got majority of negative responses and people not believing I'd make it.

It really hurt and affected my mindset and approach to my business in the first few months. I was told I shouldn't be charging X amount, that my work was eh, that they wouldn't pay for my photo's, that my business was on the short track to turning to shit...
All of that came from my family...

You know what I did? I cried, a lot... and I got angry.

I had a lot of questions run through my mind... Who did they think they were? How do they know what it takes to be a successful photographer? Have they ever run a business? How dare they criticise me for trying to chase my passion?

For a long time, I held on to a lot of resentment and anger, sometimes I still feel it. Why? Because they still don't believe in me.

It took a lot of strength and seeking advice and friendships with like-minded people, but now... I don't care what they say 99% of the time. I know I have what it takes to be a successful photographer. It takes time and hard-work, I know that. But everyone starts somewhere, always. Every photographer looks back at their old work and cringes... That shows the growth, the hard-work, the passion, the persistence, the drive... That's pretty freakin' awesome!

When it comes to pushing comfort zones and boundaries... A lot of people don't have the guts to do it. They are too afraid to break societal mental blocks of staying between the lines and never reaching their full potential, or even wanting to understand it.

I'm continuing to push those boundaries and work through my mental blocks and build a beautiful life chasing my passion.
And guess what? I don't care what they say, do or how they speak of me. Why? Because it says more about their mental blocks and that is their problem... Their problems won't affect my success.

I am so excited to continue growing and learning and building my dream life, photographing smiling faces!

There will always be people who don't believe in us, talk negatively about us/our goals and make us feel as though we are attempting the impossible...
Fuck 'em! You can do this, you are enough, you are capable and you will be successful. Embrace your journey and share your journey. The laughs, the fails, the tears, the successes, the overwhelming love... All of it!

Sarena & Scott: Lifestyle Newborn Session - Paige Pearson Photgraphy https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/11/lifestyle-newborn-session---paige-pearson-photgraphy Sarena and Scott's lifestyle newborn session was postponed due to Covid lockdown. Last weekend, I was finally able to meet little Brayden and capture his adorable smile.

Sarena knew of a really beautiful open section of bushland at the top of their street, which was the perfect location for their session!

Thankfully, the rain stopped the day of their session and we got a gorgeous golden hour lighting.
We slowly worked our way around the location as we chatted. Lots of singing and being silly to make Brayden laugh!

His little ears and smile are the most adorable things I've ever seen!
Take a look for yourself...

First Session After Covid Lockdown - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/11/first-session-after-covid-lockdown---paige-pearson-photography Lockdown restrictions were eased on October 11th for those fully vaccinated.

I'm super excited to be back shooting! My first session back was an outdoor fashion and boudoir session with Kirra.

We organised a golden hour session in one of my favourite bush locations. The golden light was absolutely stunning, the way it bounced off Kirra's hair had us absolutely ecstatic and hyped up!

We started with her skirt and sleeved bodysuit, the movement of the sleeves on the bodysuit was so flowy and gorgeous. As Kirra moved the sleeves, the light hit the glitter in the sleeves and ahh, I loved it!

We then moved on to a red lingerie set that Kirra purchased from Brasby's (https://www.brasbys.com). Brasby's is an amazing, inclusive lingerie company who produce some really bomb sets! I was super excited to shoot Kirra feeling so confident and sexy in her Brasby's set.
As we shot, the golden light bounced off Kirra's hair and got us so excited!

We moved on to the second set, which is a lacy lime green one piece. As we shot, Kirra said she felt so comfortable and excited. I was too!

The session flowed so well and I honestly could not wait to get home and edit!
It didn't take me long to find my editing flow & I am still absolutely so in-love with these photos!

I'm so excited to be back doing sessions & being able share these gorgeous pics from my session with Kirra!

My Favourite Bush Location Photos - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/11/my-favourite-bush-location-photos---paige-pearson-photography Photographers always have a favourite type of location, one of mine is definitely the bush.
There is something so calming and freeing about the breeze & quiet that surrounds you. Those are the feelings I want my clients to experience!

I've tried a few different locations but there is something about bush locations that I cannot compare to others.

Bush locations are so quiet and calm. You can hear the birds, feel free to move around, take up space and be silly without being surrounded by others. But the best part... The sun sets perfectly behind the tree-line & the golden pools of light are absolutely beautiful!

Here are some of my favourite photo's from sessions at a bush location!

My Favourite Beach Location - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/10/my-favourite-beach-location---paige-pearson-photography Photographers always have a favourite type of location, mine is definitely the beach!
There is something so calm and carefree about being barefoot in the sand and being silly while the sun sets. Those are the feelings I want my clients to experience!

I've tried a few different beach locations, but there is something about Redhead Beach that I LOVE!
There is a bit of variety in the location. The sand dunes, beach among the waves/along the shoreline, the large rocky wall of the Bluff, there is a small creek, there is also a bunch of greenery, but the best part... The sun sets perfectly behind the sand dunes and the sky gets this beautiful colourful glow. It is a golden hour that I cannot compare to another location!

How to Choose a Location - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/10/how-to-choose-a-location---paige-pearson-photography Choosing a location can be difficult. You want to make sure it's the right vibe you're looking for, that you feel comfortable and you will be able to enjoy your session.

In my pre-session questionnaire, I ask what style of location you would prefer... My options are Bush, Beach, City, Your Home and I don't mind!
My most popular locations are beach and bush. These are both calm and beautiful outdoor spaces for my clients to be themselves and embrace the excitement of their session!

These three questions seem simple but they are important. Ask yourself:

1- What type of location do I find myself in/around the most?

2- What type of location makes me feel calm, safe and happy?

3- What type of location would I want in the background of my images?

If you feel anxious and dislike being in a busy town, that definitely takes it off the list. If you struggle to walk on uneven ground or get super itchy by long grass, a bush location may not be ideal. If you feel calm, happy and carefree at the beach, that is a great indicator that the beach may the best location!

Everyone has a different preference and comfort level for different locations. Your session is all about you feeling calm and happy and embracing all the excitement and emotions that come with the experience.

Next time you have a photoshoot, ask yourself these three questions!

Family Session Tips & Tricks - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/10/family-session-tips-tricks---paige-pearson-photography Family sessions can be a stressful & hectic outing, especially with young kids. As your photographer, I have a flow and some tips & tricks to help make this as easy as possible for you!

The first thing people worry about when it comes to family sessions is "what do we wear!". Don't worry, I've got you covered! All my clients receive a Welcome Guide & Session Style Guide at time of booking. The Session Style Guide goes into detail about what looks best on camera & how to co-ordinate everyones outfits.
It also runs through some tips & tricks on how to be prepared for your session. Such as organising and separating everyone's outfits a few days prior to your session. Every had that dreaded feeling when you go to select an outfit from your kids cupboard and it turns out they've worn it and it is filthy? This trick helps you tie everyones outfits together without the stress of selecting them right before your session. One less stress for you!

A lot of the time, parents worry about their kids running amuck/misbehaving during their session. Parents initial reaction is to firmly correct them and attempt to forcibly get them to behave.
By doing this, it creates a lot more resistance and tension and stress to your session. My #1 rule for family sessions is if the kids want to run amuck, let them! They're kids & I want to capture their wild, adventurous personalities. This prevents parents & kids from getting more stressed and frustrated, which ultimately makes your session much more enjoyable!

For families with young bubs or kids, having a happy tummy can help keep them energised and actively listening during the session. This goes for every member but especially with young bubs and kids, this can be a super simple trick for a positive experience.

If you need to use a little bribery to keep your kids engaged, be sure to keep me in the loop! I am here to capture your family unit, not to judge you. If bribery helps us to capture your kids, that's okay!

Each family is unique and have different expectations/boundaries regarding their kids. As your photographer, being aware of these is super helpful in regards to my approach to your session. I want to ensure everyone has a fun and positive experience during your session. Family sessions are all about laughing, snuggling and embracing each-other.

Are you ready to capture your family unit in all it's craziness? Click here to enquire/book!

5 Ways to Incorporate Manifestation into Your Business - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/10/5-ways-to-incorporate-manifestation-into-your-business---paige-pearson-photography Manifestation has been around for a long time. But it has become very popular over the last 12 months.

What is Manifestation?
Manifestation is based on the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction is a belief that the thoughts we have can control the outcomes of things in our lives. It is said that we live 90-95% in our subconscious mind and only 5-10% in our conscious mind. If our subconscious mind is telling us we are not worthy, pointing out all our flaws and we are treating people in a negative way due to the way they live their life... We are subconsciously putting out negative waves into the Universe. Those negative waves aren't telling the Universe why they are that way or what you want. The waves are putting out negative energy so they are attracting negative energy.
How many times have you been running late to something, all the cars seem to be going to slow and you catch all the red lights? It makes you more frustrated and rush more! But why does this happen? Well because we are so focused on getting to our destination on time, we are focused on red lights, slow cars and barriers. So our subconscious mind is putting exactly those out into the Universe so the Universe is delivering those to you. Next time this happens. Get in the car, stop and take a deep breath. In your mind visualise a clear path and a calm energy. Maintain that calm energy and you will be surprised at how you are easily able to get to your destination on time without all the slow cars and red lights!

How someone Manifests is a personal decision. You can write it down, you can draw it, you can sit and envision it in your mind, you can tell people/speak it aloud. Personally, I have a Manifestation Journal I write down daily affirmations in and I also take 10minutes after writing them down to sit, close my eyes, take deep breaths and envision and feel the things I wish to Manifest. When envisioning and feeling, it is always recommended to envision you already have it and to feel the gratitude and emotions of having reached the goal of your Manifestation.
At the end of your Manifestations, always thank the Universe and show gratitude. This will help you to feel and be seen as deserving.

When Manifesting it is important to be very specific and consistent. If you are wanting $10,000 by a certain date to pay off a debt, manifest "I have successfully paid off my $10,000 credit card debt as of (insert date). Thankyou Universe! I am so grateful".

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't believe that if I tell the Universe every day for 2 weeks that I will have $10million dollars by December 31st, 2021 that it will happen. Manifestation is the incorporation of working on yourself, working your ass and proving that you deserve it. When I say "The Universe", this is basically referring to your higher self and your subconscious mind. You are telling yourself that you are worthy, that you are capable and you will work hard to help these goals come true.
There has been a very negative and "hippie" outlook attached to Manifestation. I used to be one of those people! I'm not ashamed to say that I love Manifesting! Now that I understand that Manifesting is about personal growth and working hard, It has really allowed me to grow as a person, grow my business and really refine my goals and dreams. I truly believe I will surpass them and become my best self and live my dream life.

Here are 5 Ways I Manifest for my Business!

1- I have a Manifestation Journal. Every morning, I sit down at my desk, take some deep breaths and write down my affirmations and Manifestations. I have a few I use every day, I have a few long term goals on there and I have some that change. I will do them for a few days and then change. It is recommended to be consistent and specific with your Manifestations until they happen, as explained above.

2- Envision and feel. This is the best way to visualise and get excited and feel grateful for your manifestations. This is different for each person. Personally, I love to do this after I have written in my Manifestation Journal. It's almost like a double dose of positivity and gratitude and acceptance.

3- Every night before going to sleep, I take a few minutes to say the things Im grateful for. By going to sleep on positive thoughts, our subconscious mind is sending positive waves into the Universe as we sleep.
It can also be great to do when you wake up! Starting an ending your day on a positive note and showing your gratitude can help you to feel better and positively impact your day!

4- Before taking a call with a potential client, I will stop, take some breaths and manifest them at the end of their call booking me. This helps me get excited during the call and allows me to positively interact with the client and share my business with them.
We always want to be positive and fun and professional to our clients. We want them to be attracted to our personalities and ready to embrace working with us!

5- When things are slow, I always keep myself up to date and busy with behind the scenes business things. Such as blog posts, catching up on editing, learning new skills, looking for new resources and embracing growth. This shows the Universe that even though I am not "working", I am still working. That I am still passionate and driven and when the right clients come along, I will be ready to give them the best experience.

There are so many more ways you can manifest for yourself and your business. For now, here are some resources for Manifestation and business!

How Self Portraits Can Be Self Care - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/9/how-self-portraits-can-be-self-care---paige-pearson-photography Over the last 18 months, I've come to love self portraits and they've been a huge factor in my self-love journey and part of my self care routine.

Getting to a place where you truly love yourself can seem so impossible. There will always be parts of us that we don't like or feel we need to "fix"... But, loving ourselves doesn't mean we are happy with every single thing about us. It's about accepting ourselves as we are. All the flaws, cellulite, double chin, our negative attitudes/responses... we acknowledge and accept it all. By accepting it, that doesn't mean we agree with it or we don't care... It's us acknowledging that we aren't perfect, we are flawed and we are human. It's acknowledging the areas for growth and putting in the effort and energy for that growth to be had.

It's taken a long time for me to be able to start accepting myself and acknowledging myself. In a deep and accurate way. By accepting and acknowledging, we become self-aware. And being self-aware is the key to growth.
How? Because we don't just acknowledge our positive traits and strengths, we also acknowledge our weaknesses and flaws and how our actions and responses can negatively impact others. If we are able to acknowledge and accept accountability, we are able to build those skills and take a more positive path.

For me, this started well before I started taking self-portraits. But self-portraits allowed me to look at the areas of my body I didn't like, or the weird expression on my face and feel grateful. I honestly never thought that would be possible as I've always had such a negative view of myself and body. Which, unfortunately, is so common!

Self-portraits for me are a time of reflection as well as fun. I get to wear something that makes me feel good, be outside and just run around and enjoy a feeling of freedom. Afterwards, I give myself some time to sit and reflect and feel grateful.

Self-portraits don't have to be scary, they don't have to be extremely technical or have a massive, expensive set-up. They're about how you feel and seeing your body from different angles. That's the start of the journey to acknowledging and accepting ourselves. That's the start of the journey to becoming our best selves... I think that is priceless!

What's A Session Style Guide? - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/9/what-is-a---paige-pearson-photography As photographers, part of our job is to know what style of clothing can really flatter you for your session.

Firstly, what is a Session Style Guide?
A Session Style Guide is basically a clothing/style guide. A lot of photographers have a different style/vibe they encourage their clients to embrace for their session. This keeps their work consistent but also has their clients feeling confident and looking fly for their session.
Within a Session Style Guide can be a range of things. What style/clothing they suggest you wear, what styles and patterns to avoid, what footwear to opt for, tips and tricks, hairstyles/hair accessories and so on.

Personally, I know how frustrating and inconvenient it can be when you just can't find the right outfit. So when I started PPP, I ensured that I would have a Session Style Guide to give my clients to help them get an idea of what to wear, what to avoid as well as some tips & tricks.

In the Session Style Guide you will receive if you book a session with me, it goes in depth about what clothes look flattering on camera, what patterns to avoid, what hairstyles look gorgeous, what shoes to wear that would suit your location, tips and tricks on items of clothing as well as tips and tricks on how to feel prepared and ready to fully embrace your upcoming session!

The most important thing I always say to my clients is that comfort is key! You can wear stilettos and a tight dress and I will cheer you on as you rock that outfit! But you have to ask yourself.. Will I be comfortable? Will I spend the entire session adjusting straps, having restricted movement? Is it worth wearing some cute jeans and a t-shirt instead?

Comfort is definitely key! I want you to embrace you! To wear jeans and a t-shirt, to wear a flowy, floral dress, to wear slacks and a dress shirt, to wear shorts and a plain t-shirt. Being you and being comfortable will allow you to feel free to move and laugh and be yourself. I want you to enjoy your session, not spend the whole time worrying about adjusting your outfit.

TIP: Imagine you are going to a nice pub lunch, what would you wear?

A Session Style Guide is so important for my clients. It really helps ease the pressure of how do I co-ordinate everyones outfits? What kind of style are we going for as a family unit? My partner wants to wear thongs, a singlet and khakis to our session but Im wearing a flowy dress?
Everything is answered in the Session Style Guide. Taking away the stress and pressure helps make the process smoother and allows the excitement to take over!

Enjoying the excitement and connection during your session is by far the most important thing for your session!

What Equipment Do I Use? - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/9/what-gear-i-use It's not often that the client or customer gets to see the equipment used to create the final product they get to take home. As photographers, half of what we use is right there with us at your session.

Professional photography gear is expensive. The thousands of dollars for gear, insurances, props, editing software, client management programs and much more. Especially for someone just opening their business, it can be quite daunting.

I am a Nikon girl. I have only ever owned Nikon and love them!

At a session, I use my D750 with my 85mm. The 85mm allows me to prompt a natural, intimate moment and capture it without being up close and interrupting the moment.
I love emotion and those small, intimate moments that really show the connection. That's why the 85mm is my go to lens. Most of my favourite images have been taken with my 85mm.

If I'm not using the 85mm, I'm definitely using my 24-70mm. The 24-70mm allows me to get the wider shots, taking in you as well as showcasing the beautiful scenery of the location.

Once home, I back my images up to my external hard drive and upload them to Lightroom. I go through and cull all the photos that are blurry, mid blink/eyes closer or multiples. While doing that I mark the ones I really love and definitely want to edit.

99% of the time, I don't edit the images straight away. I will take the rest of the day/the night to relax and edit previous sessions, organise upcoming days.
I do this because sometimes the excitement of the session can take over. I want to ensure I view and edit them with a clear mind and accurate to my editing style/capturing the emotion and connection.

Once I do my first round of edits, I go away for a few hours and come back and revisit them. I do this a few times as I want to ensure consistency and that I'm happy with the final product.

Final galleries are uploaded to the 'Client Galleries' section of my website. I organise the images the client will receive and then I upload the second gallery with the additional images that my clients can purchase. I like giving my clients the choice of purchasing additional images as the images in the second gallery can be just as special and important to them!

I like to keep things as easy as I can for myself and for my clients. Being upfront and open are important factors of how I run PPP. Being able to share my passion with my clients and giving them images they will cherish forever is something I will be always be overwhelmingly grateful for!

Before & After Editing - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/9/before-after-editing---paige-pearson-photography A big part of photography is editing. The image taken can be altered in many ways to enhance the image or even make it completely different!

Personally, I use editing to enhance the colours and feeling of the image. Using presets is also a huge part of photography and editing. However, not every photographer uses presets. But using them helps photographers stick to a consistent editing style, which can and does become a huge part of their branding!

I've never really seen editing as a strong point for me. I struggled to understand it, find my own style and to actually do it at times. Even now, I still don't really have a consistent style and sometimes still struggle. But I'm human and I know that struggling is apart of my growth process.

There is something so exciting about seeing a before and after photo, especially as the creator of the beautiful image my clients get to keep forever!

Why Book a Couples Session - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/9/why-book-a-couples-session---paige-pearson-photography "I see so many cute photo's of couples, I want those!"

That's one reason to book a couple session. And there are so many more!

So why should you book a couple session?
Each couple is different and unique, we all love making memories and reminiscing. We love being silly and laughing with our partners. We love snuggling our partners and telling them we love them. We love doing life with them!
By scheduling a couple session, we are able to capture your dynamic with beautiful photos!

Couples sessions are my favouriteeeeee type of sessions!
It's so important for me to get to know the couple and personalise my approach to their session. This allows me to capture them as the silly and loved up team they are!

There is nothing like watching them laugh, get close and snuggly, be silly and really let their hair down and embrace their session!

Couple sessions are all about you as a couple. Whether you're affectionate and love showing that you're in-love or you're silly and adventurous and love to laugh; let's capture the connection you share and create memories!

3 Prompts for Maternity Sessions - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/9/7-prompts-for-maternity-sessions---paige-pearson-photography Maternity sessions were created for you to show off your bump, feel connected to your baby & get excited for their nearing arrival!

There is something about maternity sessions that makes my heart swell! They are one of a kind sessions and can be emotional.
I always encourage my clients that if they're feeling emotional, show it! Being able to capture that emotion is apart of embracing your journey to parenthood.

Here are my top 3 favourite prompts for the lovely parents to be!

1 - Wrap your hands around your belly, look down at it, think about your baby & how much you love them!

2 - Drop one hand, pop a knee, have your little one snuggle up to you and rest their head on the side of your bump & use your other hand to hold them!

3 - Stand facing each other, take a step to the side of her belly and rest your hands gently on her bump. Wrap your arms around his neck and rest your foreheads and noses together. Close your eyes and take some deep, calming synchronised breaths.

3 Tips for Setting Boundaries as a Small Business Owner - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/9/setting-boundaries-as-a-small-business-owner---paige-pearson-photography As humans we are all different. Sometimes we aren't great at setting and maintaining personal boundaries, let alone maintaining boundaries as a business owner!

By not setting and sticking to boundaries, you're letting potential clients and others know that if they argue or push back hard enough, you will eventually give in and agree. Unfortunately in my experience, 100% of the time, these are not situations which will benefit you as much as the person on the other end.

When you set boundaries and expectations in your business, you attract clients who value you and your business. They pay you because they want too, they respect you and are excited to hire you! These are the clients all business owners want on their books!

As a photographer, I want to say yes to everyone and give them all a great experience. And for some time, I did say yes to everyone. I found myself taking on so many shoots for free, working my ass off for minimal return and being disrespected and undermined constantly. I was sending myself broke by always
saying yes, which included travelling quite far for these free sessions.

At the start, it was hard to set those boundaries and stick to them. I found myself hesitating and feeling so unsure! The worry I had about nobody wanting to book me or be involved with my business was high. But I couldn't have been more wrong!

Now, I have set expectations and boundaries, they are outlined in my contract and no matter what or who, I stick to them!
I still strive to give my clients an awesome experience and images, and I still work my ass off. But now, I have clients who are as grateful for me as I am for them, I get paid and paid on time, I get gorgeous images for my portfolio and so much more!
All because I started believing in myself and set firm boundaries!

If you're bad at setting and maintaining boundaries, here are my 3 top tips:

1 - Have an accountability friend/s! Do you have a strong-willed friend who you know has your best interest at heart? Being able to go to them, explain what's going on, what your plans are and asking their advice on whether you are being taken advantage of or how to respond in a firm and professional way.
By having someone back you up and assure that you're making the right decision, helps install confidence in your abilities, your business and your self!

2 - Write yourself a Mantra! Write down a confidence boosting reminder so when you are unsure what to do, read your mantra to remind yourself that you are worthy, you are confident and you are not a door mat. You are a bad ass business owner and you deserve respectful, quality clients who will pay you what you're worth it. Because you deserve it!

3 - A photography mentor! Having a photographer mentor is a great way to learn and get advice on how best to move forward. Find experienced photographers near you who you see work hard, have similar business practices to what you want or would willing to help and send them a message. They could become your go-to person when you are in doubt.

We always want to give back to people and be kind, but first we have to get our businesses off the ground and understand our value! Unfortunately, there will always be people who will try and take advantage of others. But we don't have to fall prey to a long-term habit of saying yes.

Let's work hard and service the amazing clients who respect and appreciate us and our businesses!

7 Prompts for Couple Sessions - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/8/couple-session-tips-tricks---paige-pearson-photography All sessions are different, just like all couples are different.

For my couple sessions, I send a pre-session questionnaire for the couple to fill out. This lets me get to know the dynamic of the couple a little better. Once I've looked through their answers, I compile a list of prompts that I think match the couple as well as a bunch that look so fun or emotional or make for a sweet moment!
I use the Unscripted app for my prompts.

As a photographer, I love capturing close intimate moments. Here are my top 7 prompts for couples!

4 - Lock your eyes onto each-other, grab them by the waistband of their jeans and pull them in really close as if you're going to kiss. Just as you're about to kiss, push them away.

Outdoor Self Portraits - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/8/outdoor-self-portraits---paige-pearson-photography A few weeks ago, in the middle of another COVID lockdown. I decided to go for a bushwalking and take some self portraits.

It was my first time ever taking self portraits outside of my house/property. It was so nerve racking! I was worried someone was going to see me and judge me! Mind you, I was in the middle of the bush, in an open area where I could see for majority of a km each way. I had bush-walked through this location so many times, so I knew it was not a busy place. But I still had the fear of judgement and being seen by a passing 4WD or motorbike rider.

I set up on the far side, in attempts to capture the setting golden sun behind me. It felt really weird being out in the open but turns out I really loved it! I felt so free and empowered and I didn't care as much as I thought I would.

The lighting at the end was gorgeous! I found the perfect spot, facing the sun as it has just hit the horizon. The lighting was so soft and dreamy!
As I was doing my last set and finishing up in this gorgeous lighting spot, I heard a ute came behind me and I was like oooh myyy goshhhh. I went bright red and instantly stopped.
The guys drove by and waved politely as they passed. It was as good as a situation can be when you get caught posing for your camera in the middle of the bush.

I actually really like these photos! I feel confident and pretty. It made me see myself in a different way, with different lighting and angles. I wasn't expecting it and I'm pleasantly surprised. I really loved taking self portraits outside, it was different and fun and had this carefree vibe to it. I will definitely be doing it again! I can't wait to embrace myself more and more and not worry about what others think.

Why Book a Family Photoshoot - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/8/why-book-a-family-photoshoot---paige-pearson-photography Why should you book a photoshoot for your family?

As time passes, milestones are reached, cuddles are shared and before you know it, you're sending your babies off to high school!

You're probably saying to yourself "Oh my gosh, where did the time go? You only just went to kindy! I swear you only lost a baby tooth last year!" Time really does fly by and we often don't know the importance of a moment until it's passed.

With everything that has happened in the last few years with the COVID pandemic, it has really taught us what is important to us. Family has been people's #1 priority throughout this really isolating and scary time. Whether it's Sunday family dinners, taking the kids to see Grandma and Grandpa or having a drink with your siblings, there has been so much we feel like we have missed.

Family photoshoots are all about capturing your family unit in all it's crazy, messy and amazing reality. In 10, 20+ years, can you imagine not having visual memories of your babies growing up?

Let's embrace our littlies, hug our grandparents and have a drink with our siblings and share a family photoshoot to remind them of the family unit you all share!

Surprise Proposal - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/8/surprise-proposal---paige-pearson-photography A few weeks ago, Mitch enquired through my website about a last-minute surprise proposal to his long time love.

On my consultation call with Mitch, he discussed wanting to propose at the top of Mt. Tomaree. My lacking fitness level instantly groaned in protest, but of course I didn't hesitate to tell him that I'd love to be apart of such a beautiful moment in their lives!

We only had a few short days to organise all the details. The most important was to discuss a signal for Mitch to use when he was about to pop the question.

We were blessed with a beautiful sunny Saturday. As Mitch & Lisselle got to the top of Mt.Tomaree, I was "casually taking photo's of the landscapes" ;)
Lisselle had no idea that Mitch had hired me & it was such a lovely moment! I grabbed them for a few quick couple and ring shots and let them celebrate their engagement!

Congratulations Mitch & Lisselle!

Belinda & Blake - Where do we even begin? 🤩 Paige was amaazingggg! From booking in the session right through to receiving the photos, Paige kept us up to date and communicated with us the whole time. The way she took control of us in the shoot was awesome, telling us where she wanted us and what she wanted us to do. But, it was such a relaxed vibe and made it so easy to be a part of. We felt 100% comfortable and the session was full of laughs!
We absolutely LOVED how many different shots and styles Paige took and it was exactly what we asked for! 🥰

Couple Session: Matt & Brett - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/8/matt-brett Earlier this month, I reached out to Matt & Brett on Instagram to see if they'd be keen for a couples shoot. Lucky for me, they were super excited!
We travelled into Newcastle and had their session in a gorgeous little park surrounded by flower gardens.

We decided a picnic with nibbles and cocktails was the perfect session for them!
We sat and talked and sipped our cocktails as the sun set behind us. Matt & Brett told me about their adventures on travel guides. Mostly about all the amazing cocktails they enjoyed, who can blame them?!

During the session, we wandered around the location and watched the sky turn so colourful as the sun crept behind the horizon. It was a beautiful sunset for a beautiful couple!

Matt & Brett told me they were more friendly when it came to affection. As I normally prompt my couples to get super close for more intimate, snuggly photos, I found this a bit of a challenge at first.
As a photographer, it's my job to adjust to suit my clients needs. I was more than happy to play around with posing and prompts with Matt & Brett to find what they felt comfortable with.

During the session Matt & Brett told me they've been together for 19 years, married for 17years and have been embracing adventures ever since! In my pre-sessiom questionnaire, I ask couples to describe their relationship in 5 words. Most couples use descriptive words like "adventurous, inlove, fun" etc. When I seen Matt & Brett's answer, I was happily shocked and instantly my heart melted! They wrote, "Partnership to Last a Lifetime" How sweet is that?! The session was full of laughter, dancing and sipping cocktails.

It was such a relaxed and funny session, everything lined up so well! I could not have asked for a better couple, sunset or session.

7 Blog Post Ideas for Photographers - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/8/7-blog-post-ideas-for-photographers---paige-pearson-photography If you're a photographer, like me, who loves taking photo's but struggles with blog posts. I feel you!

Blog posts can be where small business owners struggle and/or don't put a lot of effort as they don't see the point. I'm here to tell you that blog posts are a great way to boost your SEO and get potential clients to view your website, which is the ultimate goal of any business owner!

Here's 7 blog post idea's for my fellow photographers!

1) Your most recent session - this is a pretty common one. Instead of just writing a short 3 sentence post and attaching the images. Write about the client, the location, how you felt. Grab the readers attention with a beautiful, in-depth experience of a photoshoot with you! Use your blog posts to appeal to your ideal clients!

2) Your top 5 locations - Do you have 5 favourite locations? Do you have more? Do you have on you absolutely LOVE? Blog about it! Describe the location, how you do your shoots there, why you shoot there, how it feels being there. There are so many beautiful hidden locations, let your clients know you know where they are & would love to have their shoot there. Clients may reach out & request a specific location as they loved the vibe you spoke about when at that location!

3) Editing Style/Before & Afters - Before and afters are popular on Instagram and TikTok right now, but why not also do it in a blog post? Explain why you edited the images this way. Was it a feeling? Is it a consistent editing style? If so, why did you choose this specific editing style?

4) Tips & Tricks for a Specific Type of Photoshoot - If you are a family photographer, blog about the tips & tricks you've learned that save time and hassles! Everyone loves a time saving, stress avoiding hack. Do you send your clients a pre-session guide to help them prepare for their photoshoot? If so, blog about it too!

5) Upcoming Styled/Mini Sessions - Do you have upcoming Mini Sessions? Blog about what your plans are and why someone should book a session. There are so many awesome Mini Session Ideas around, why should they pick you? What makes your Mini's experience unique? Mini Sessions are a great way to gain new clients!
PPP has Fathers Day Mini Sessions coming soon... Stay tuned!

6) Prints/Products - Are you offering prints and products? Do you do IPS? Blog about why prints/products are an invaluable option. Do a blog post explaining why you do IPS, the process you go through with a client, what products you have available. Do you offer payment plans for the collections/products? Previous clients that have purchased products & their reviews/reactions to their products. There are so many ways to blog about your business practices!

7) Why Photography is Expensive - explaining why photographer charge what they do. Blog about the background work that has to be done, the expenses we have, the risks of a service based business & the slow season, why your time is valuable, how hard you have to work. Sometimes people see things at face value and because they don't understand the 'why', they say no. Explaining the 'why' can help you build trust with your clients by being open and honest.

Thinking of blog post ideas can be such a time consuming, pain in the butt. I totally understand! But taking the time to blog about your business and share your passion with potential clients is the best way to boost your business and book clients who value you!

Let's blog our hearts out & connect with our amazing clients and followers!

5 Facts About Your Photographer - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/8/introducing-paige---paige-pearson-photography Today's blog post is all about getting to know me!

As a photographer, the most important thing we can give our clients, is our trust. Let me introduce myself...

Hi, I'm Paige!

I'm a creative, nature loving chocaholic who loves connecting with new people. Building trust with my clients and followers is my ultimate goal. I want to capture the authentic, raw side of you that allows you to unapologetically tell your story.

While I love hearing all about you, here are 5 facts about me...

1) I am a total chocaholic! Cadbury Caramello is my weaknessssssss! Growing up, I always had a big sweet tooth. My Grandma used to let us have dessert and then dinner, it definitely didn't help my sweet tooth go away...

2) My family lives on a small property with a large handful of animals. We have dogs, cats, horses, chickens, roosters & ducks. Rosie is my girl, we are often out on bush walks and snuggling in the paddock.

3) I read a lot of books. As a teenager, reading was my escape. I could get lost in a book for hours! Often finishing books within a day or two of starting them. A friend in high school leant me a copy of a fantasy young adult novel when I was in year 7, I fell completely in love & never stopped!
As I've grown into an adult, my taste has changed. I love a good romance novel and of course, autobiographies. There is always a type of emotion with words that is so different & beautiful.

4) I used to be a dancer. From a young primary school kid, I danced. I absolutely loved being creative and moving my body to music. It was so freeing! As I got older, I became a student teacher. Watching the young kids grow, make progress and embrace their passion for dance... That was such an amazing experience! Having a creative outlet has been always been such a huge part of my life, it's just taken many different forms over the years.

5) I'm the oldest of 3 siblings. I have a younger brother & sister. There are so many pro's and con's to being the oldest, but I would drop everything to help my brother and sister.

I'm just an average 24year old who has found her passion in life.

Capturing connections and emotions we share as humans is something I will never get tired of...

Let's get to know each other!
Tell me about you?

Adventures with Ivy - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/7/adventures-with-ivy---paige-pearson-photography Earlier this month, Lizzie won a competition in my VIP Facebook Group. Lizzie decided that her 18 month old cattle dog pup, Ivy, would be the perfect model.

We decided to walk Ivy to the location, as we all know cattle dogs are full of so much energy! We hiked up a little hill to view the most beautiful golden sun setting in the distance.

Once at the top, Ivy couldn't stop moving! Running through the long grass and greeting some BMX riders passing through. We eventually managed to rope her in with treats and bubbles.

I had Lizzie stand down wind and blow the bubbles. As Lizzie was down wind, the bubbles blew towards me and as Ivy chased them, I managed to get some great shots!

I'm proud of the photo's of Ivy. The session started as quite a struggle and I really struggled to get good shots. But I stopped, took some breaths and problem solved by working with Ivy's high energy instead of against it.

On the way back home, Ivy jumped in every single mud puddle she seen. Cattle dogs blow my mind with how much energy they can still have even after an hour of non-stopping running!

The family absolutely LOVE the photos!

Investing in a Social Media Content Package - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/7/investing-in-a-social-media-content-package---paige-pearson-photography One thing I have found recently that I love and that I'm good at it, is helping other small business owners create high quality content for their business social media accounts.
I never thought that I would even consider taking business headshots and behind the scenes for other small business owners.... But here I am, doing just that!

When I was first starting out with my business, I had no idea what to post, how to post it, where to post it, what I should put as the caption, how to maximise engagement. Some days, I still struggle with this and guess what? It's a very common problem for small business owners!
We are expected to be experts in SEO, post multiple times a week to social media, update our websites weekly, stay updated on all algorithms of all different social media platforms, blog at least once a week, reply to enquiries ASAP and have a perfectly crafted yet personalised response to each enquiry... It's bloody exhausting!

Some times, I can't be bothered and I say 'screw it' and take the day off socials. Some times I wish I had someone who could do it for me. But, unfortunately, I am still in my first official year of business and it's not an option for me right now. But you know what? I'd love to support other small businesses with releasing some of that stress by providing them with high quality content for their socials.

Owning a small business can be overwhelming, isolating and frustrating multiple times over in a day. But it can also be so satisfying, ignite your passion and bring you ultimate joy! That's why supporting other small business owners is so important!

Recently, I have created my very own Social Media Content Packages. There are three packages, suitable for businesses of all sizes and needs.
The packages include professional business headshots for your social media and website as well high quality social media content for regular updates! There's also a tips & tricks sheet of different caption ideas to post with your high quality content on your socials.

Getting in front of the camera can be extremely intimidating for some people, especially as a business owner, we are always behind the scenes, especially online. By getting front of the camera, getting some amazing headshot that represent you & your business, you are gaining the trust of your followers & potential clients.

Let's work together & get you some high quality content that shows off the amazing business you are running!

Are you a small business owner located in Newcastle, Hunter & Surrounds?

Are you ready to post high quality content to your social media?

Self Portraits - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/7/self-portraits---paige-pearson-photography I used to HATE taking self portraits!

It was the idea of self-portraits and being inspired that I LOVED! But I always was extremely critical of every image & in the end, I would end up deleting all of them.

It wasn't until a few months ago that I really started to fully embrace & love each self portrait session. The first time I loved the process and the photo's, I was shocked. I couldn't believe that I actually loved a photo of myself that you could see my double chin, you could see pimples and my hair was oily and sticking up at a few weird angles.

The reason I loved it? I looked happy! I looked like I was enjoying myself & truly happy. The feeling I got viewing that photo was overwhelming and I teared up. Now, I chase that feeling! To enjoy the process, to embrace myself & get some cool images out of it.

Last week, I did another self portrait session. I set up a black sheet and my tripod, put on a dress I felt cute in and blasted some music.
I lowered my shutter speed & danced around. It turned out to be so much fun & I really loved it!

After a while of that, I put on a bodysuit that I bought recently. It's this beautiful burgundy red colour and it diagonally cuts across my chest.
I pulled up a bar stool & repeated the process of posing, jamming out & playing with my hair.

There was something about this self portrait session. I felt so comfortable and happy. I didn't feel like I needed to rush or worry about what I looked like. It ended up being a two hour self portrait session on a Sunday evening. When I looked at the clock, I couldn't believe how long it had been!
These images are different to my usual images. They're softer, more feminine, I feel as if they show my strength & resilience.

I am definitely not 100% there, but I am starting to love myself and learn more about myself on a deeper level. There are so many people that tell us what to do and who to be and how to dress and how our body should look, especially as women.

Here's to fighting the inner conflict & really embracing our true selves and loving every minute of being in front of the camera!

Instagram & Reels - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/7/instagram-reels---paige-pearson-photography Instagram is most known for being a photo based social media site, hence the attraction to it for photographers. A photo based business using a photo based social media platform? Heck yeah, the ultimate combo!
Earlier this year, Instagram added "Reels' as another factor for their users to create content.

If you don't know what Reels are, they're basically just TikTok videos but for Instagram. You can use specific audio, filters & go nuts!
Personally, I love making Reels! You can personalise them as content relevant to your business. They're fun, they're personal, they get you in front of the camera and being an authentic brand ambassador for your business.

Foster Shoot: Lili Pili - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/7/foster-shoot-lili-pili---paige-pearson-photography Last week, I got to meet this super cute rabbit, Lili Pili for her adoption photos.

I've been a volunteer photographer with Newcastle Pet Rescue Photographers Group since January this year. I've photographed dogs and kittens but Lili Pili was my first rabbit.

Lili Pili took a little while to warm up to me. I laid down on the floor and fed her pieces of carrot.  With each piece of carrot and after a few sniffs of my big scary camera, her trust & comfort grew. I was able to pick up my camera & start getting shots of her.

Lili Pili was so dang cute & sweet! Her coat was so soft!
She pleasantly just hopped around, looking at the yard, watching birds fly over & snacking on some grass. She was such a calm, affectionate rabbit once she settled. I couldn't have asked for a better model for my first rabbit!

If you're interested in adopting Lili Pili, contact RRSAC.

Endometriosis - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/7/endometriosis---paige-pearson-photography What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is when lining similar to the lining of the uterus, grows outside of the uterus. Endometriosis can grow on any internal organ, there have even been cases of Endometriosis found on the brain!

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women worldwide.
Endometriosis can cause debilitating pain, heavy bleeding, fertility issues, overwhelming fatigue, mood swings, hormone imbalances & so much more.

Endometriosis can affect every aspect of your life. Your social life, your physical health & wellbeing, your self confidence and especially your mental health.

I was diagnosed with Endometriosis 13 days before my 21st birthday

Since the age of 13, I had spent every month in the ED at my local hospital in excruciating pain. I also had significant bleeding, extreme fatigue, hormone headaches that lasted for a week at a time among other side effects.
It took all the way until the age of 17, for me to be referred to the gynaecology unit of the hospital. I then spent 18 months trying all different kinds of birth control, recommended by the gynaecologist, before being put on a list for surgery.

Surgery rolls around and finally, I had a diagnosis!
The momentary relief of having an answer was quickly overwhelmed by uncertainty & fear. I had only briefly heard of Endometriosis when the gyno had handed a 2 page brochure titled "What is Endometriosis"

The next few months were spent researching my absolute butt off to know as much as I could about Endometriosis & how I could use that knowledge to benefit myself & my future with this new diagnosis.

I found an Endometriosis Specialist in Sydney who I was able to get in to see. My first consultation with Professor Alan Lam was the most overwhelming sense of relief. He believed me & was willing to put me on a surgery waiting list straight away to give me the best chance at having a life in my 20s.
Less than a year later, I was in surgery having my Endometriosis excised. Ever since, my body found it's new normal and things began to become consistent and calm and less painful. That was almost 3 years ago now.

Endometriosis is an incurable disease. Continuing laprascopic surgery of excision is the only way to successfully manage Endometriosis in a long term way.
Yes, birth control is an option. But birth control can be mask the Endo symptoms but won't actually stop the growth of the Endometriosis. Hysterectomy is not a cure or a way to rid Endo from your body either, as Endometriosis can grow on any of your internal organs.

Amie: Photography Workshop - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/7/amie-photography-workshop---paige-pearson-photography Last weekend, I attended a workshop with the lovely Amie as our model.

It was so much fun to catch-up with my photographer friends & pick up my camera after a weeks!

The location was an open grassy area, surrounded by trees and a gorgeous creek. The sun was setting right behind Amie, giving a gorgeous golden halo affect. I was obsessed!

Right a the sun was setting we ducked out onto the jetty & started photographing Amy with the beautiful golden sun setting right on the horizon. These are definitely my favourite shots from the workshop! There's just this calm, carefree vibe about them & I bloody looooove it!

We all joked & moved around the location, capturing some lovely images. It was such a calm & fun afternoon, especially amongst all the recent Covid19 cases on the coast.

Thankyou to Amie for being an amazing model & really embracing the funny & wild banter with us photographers!

I hope everyone is staying safe & well through the recent Covid outbreak!

Community Over Competition - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/6/---paige-pearson-photography Being a younger woman, trying to open a business in an extremely saturated industry is damn hard!

Photographers range from being extremely nasty and self righteous to overwhelmingly supportive and kind! Unfortunately, I encountered more selfish photographers than kind ones when I was a beginner photographer. These interactions alone made me doubt whether this was the industry I wanted to go into, if that's how I would turn out to be.

After many negative experiences, I found a small handful of photographers who were so kind, supportive & welcoming. I was lucky enough to be mentored by two very different photographers & the lessons I learned from them both have been invaluable in my growth as a person and as a photographer.

From one, I learnt more about how to photograph families. The behind the scenes set-ups & interactions, how to prep the clients for the shots, how to be personable as a photographer, what kind of locations look good & the kind of lighting to look for. I learnt how to make photographer friends!

From the other, I became a second shooter for at weddings and elopements. I learnt where to stand, how to get the shots, what to expect on a wedding day, how to interact with the Bride & Groom, how to prepare & adjust to different lighting situations.
I also learnt how to start charging for my services & how to price myself appropriately. How to maintain a website, editing tips & tricks, responding to enquiries and so so so much more.

Those negative experiences shook me and made me doubt myself & my journey to have career in photography. So, from those positive experiences, I have vowed to always be kind, supportive, helpful & welcoming to photographers I interact with.
Photography is something I love & if someone else loves it too, I want us to share the passion & excitement together! Whether they have been a photographer for 20+ years or 20 days, we share the love for photography & one thing in common is all we need to create a friendship.

There's a saying in the photography world, "Community over Competition". I stand by this motto. Let's build each other up, encourage & support each other because we are all doing freaking awesome & sometimes we need to hear that we are...

7 Tips for Taking Your Own Branding Photos - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/6/5-tips-for-taking-your-own-branding-photos---paige-pearson-photography Earlier this week, I took myself outside, set up my tripod and took my own branding photos.

Your brand is one of the most important aspects of owning a business. You become your brands ambassador, as you are your brand (as cheesy and confusing as it sounds).
Honestly, your brand isn't as important at the very start of creating a business. It takes time to figure out what your brand is, what are your brand values, how do I want my brand to be received by potential clients, etc.
I still feel unsure about some of these things. Figuring out my 'brand' is definitely something I am still figuring out... We aren't always going to know straight away, and that's okay!

Branding images are photos of you, they represent you as a business owner and also represent your business. These allow your future clients to see the face behind the business. Being able to match those can be tricky but having some nice, professional looking images helps to ensure trust to your potential clients.

You really want your branding images should showcase your personality! These images should make people feel safe and eager to book you or buy your product!

Let's jump into my tips!

#1 - Research! Jump on to Google and take a look at what others in your industry have done with their headshots/branding images. I suggest saving those photos and creating a 'moodboard'. A moodboard is basically a collage of images that have a similar style. This helps you to visualise your ideas and narrow down to a style or 'vibe' that suit you & your business.

#2 - Pick an outfit that you makes you feel confident! Choosing the right outfit in your branding images is important. You want to wear something that matches your personality, makes you feel confident but isn't too over the top or too bland. A great way to help narrow it down is to choose an outfit you would wear to an interview for this kind of job.

#3 - Pick a simple but comfortable location. This can be somewhere on your verandah, a local park, a brick building background etc. I always suggest a simple location where you stand out. If you choose a solid background, like a building, make sure you are standing a few metres away from the wall, you never want to be pressed against it!
It can feel a little awkward doing these photos, so a quiet/private location works best. This way you can really get into the swing of it and enjoy yourself!

#4 - Make sure your location has good lighting! Lighting is very important for photos! When looking for a location for your branding images, you want to be fully in even shade. Places like under a roof or covered verandah, under a large tree (make sure the shade is consistent & there aren't).
Take a few test shots at different locations can help to narrow down the best options and look for those perfectly shaded locations!

#5 - Incorporate your products into your session! If you have a product based business, get your amazing products into your branding images! You can this in many ways; your process of creating new ideas for products, you wearing your products, you performing a sale of your product etc.
This puts trust into your potential clients as they can see they are receiving quality products. Plus a cool behind the scenes snapshot of your business and products!

#6 - Download Lightroom Mobile app! This is a photo editing app. This can be a great and beneficial tool to really get the most out of your images. Using the LR app, you can fix or alter parts of your images such as; one image is a little dark or you want to add a bit of a warm feeling to your images.

#7 - Play music! Music helps us to get out of our heads and lose some of the tension held in our bodies. So grab your phone and blast some of your favourite music. Groove around while you get ready and have fun with it!

I can't wait to see your beautiful branding images! Here's mine....

Hunter Valley Elopement - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/6/hunter-valley-elopement---paige-pearson-photography Back in April, I photographed Kelly & Neil's elopement at Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley (https://crowneplazahuntervalley.com.au). I was sent as an associate photographer for ArtyJ Photography.

Kelly & Neil told me they had been together for 'quite a long time'. They came up to the Hunter Valley on a trip with two of their best-friends and decided to elope.
As two very laid back, non-materialistic people, Kelly told me this was exactly what they wanted. A no fuss, non-traditional quick ceremony followed by a celebratory drink with their best-friends. Neil on the other hand, told me "A quick smooch, sign and a piss-up at the bar is the way to go". That made me laugh out loud!

We ran a little wild, jumping in golf carts & dancing our way across the fields. Whooping and hollering and hysterically laughing as we made our way from location to location.
They were a unique, hilarious and in-love couple! It is an elopement I will definitely remember.

Extended Family Session in the Hunter Valley - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/6/extended-family-session-in-the-hunter-valley---paige-pearson-photography A few weeks ago, I had my first referral from another photographer. I was shocked but so grateful. A shoutout and a big thank-you to Kayla Brockett Photography from Central Coast, NSW.

This extended family sessions took place in the beautiful wine-country of the Hunter Valley. Each family member was so outgoing and a little wild, but that just made it so much fun!

The family members were living in beautiful places all over the world, so this was the first time they were all together in years! As one of the daughter was getting married at this Hunter Valley location within the next few days, their dad knew this was the perfect time to fit in their family photos!

I managed to wrangle them all in and get the big group shots done first, then I grabbed the people as it was their turn. They kind of all just ran amuck and caught up with each other after so long apart!

This family unit had such a strong family dynamic and you could feel the deep bond and connection through their interactions. No matter what, they would always be there for each other and get through it together! It was really beautiful and heartwarming to be apart of, even if only for a short amount of time.

Extended family sessions aren't ones I do often. But.... this one was really cool to be apart of. It has definitely made me excited for future extended family sessions!

A Day at Wilde Woman Wines - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/5/a-day-at-wilde-woman-wines---paige-pearson-photography Two weeks ago, I attended a workshop held on the Wilde Woman Wines property. The location was beautiful and there were several absolutely gorgeous set-ups for us to shoot amongst.

There was a beautiful Boho-styled tent that gave off definite 'Glamping' vibes. A field of dwarf sunflowers, a beautiful glasshouse, an absolutely stunning butterfly dome and a vintage lounge among many others.

There were so many location options but I found my favourites quite quickly. I loved the field of dwarf sunflowers, the butterfly dome and I loved the glasshouse! These set-ups were just so calming and fun. We were lucky that the models in those set-ups totally embodied those feelings, which resulted in some awesome images!

The butterfly dome was stunning! There were butterflies fluttering all around and resting on leaves and plants. It was a little bit surreal... I've always loved butterflies so I feel lucky to have been surrounded by them!

I met so many other photographers that I had never met before. We talked and laughed and bonded over photography. It was a fun day! There was so much to shoot and so many people to talk too.

The models on this day absolutely killed it. They were all so kind and talented and had fun chatting with us photographers. I look forward to hopefully being able to book sessions there with my clients one day!

Couple Session: Luana & Adam - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/5/couple-session-luana-adam---paige-pearson-photography A few weeks ago, I hit 200 likes on my Facebook page! Woohoo!
I was so excited and proud of myself for pursuing and growing my passion! In my excitement, I decided to host a giveaway for a couple session. Out of all the entries, Luana & Adam were the lucky winners!

We chatted back and forth, got all the paperwork in order and set a date for their session.
With all the beautiful sunsets we've had recently, I knew the perfect place. A small, long grassed corner where the sun would set directly behind us. As I expected, the sun set in a cloudless sky, giving the most beautiful golden light!

In my pre-session questionnaire, Luana told me they wanted photos that showed their bond and being physically close. When I photograph couples, my goal is to capture their connection as well as their silly side. So focusing on their connection and closeness definitely got my mind flowing on the different ways I could capture their connection!

Overall, the session flew by and we had such a calm and lovely afternoon! The sunset was so gorgeous and the images were beautiful. I couldn't wait to get home to edit them and send them to Luana & Adam.

Luana & Adam loved their images! Luana left a lovely review and said she couldn't be happier with her experience. This makes my heart swell! I am so grateful to be able to capture the connections and love shared between my beautiful clients!

I cannot wait to continue growing and capturing more beautiful, emotional connections!

Mum & Me Mini Sessions https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/5/mum-me-mini-sessions This year, I held my first ever Mum & Me Mini's!

I was so excited to get to location and set up for the day. The sessions went by so quick, my clients were amazing and I got a got lot of great shots!

On the day, I had two set-ups at the location. One was a small teepee with an activity book. The activity book was great for the younger kids and helped me get some really cute interactive photos. The other set-up was an outdoor bench chair, which was great for everyone! I could get snuggling shots, tickling shots and just shots of these beautiful Mum's talking and interacting with their kids!

There was lots of closeness and cuddling but all lots of laughing. These Mini's have really sparked my interest in running more Mini Sessions. I was so overwhelmed by the heartfelt and lovely responses from my clients after receiving their final galleries!

Happy Mothers Day to the beautiful Mum's, Grandmothers, Step-mums & motherly figures!

Self Portraits: Putting My Insecurities on Display - Paige Pearson Photography https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/5/self-portraits-putting-my-insecurities-on-display---paige-pearson-photography Last week, I decided to pull out my camera and take some self-portraits. I've always been anxious to do this as like a lot of other humans, I struggle to see myself as attractive or beautiful.
Double-chins run in my family. I have a double-chin, which I've had ever since I was a teenager. It's always been one of my biggest insecurities. I learnt what angle to take selfies from so that you couldn't see it, how to angle my head when posing for group photos... It's mentally exhausting!

Recently, I've been sick of feeling like it's a flaw and that it makes me any less of a person because I have it. So, I decided to tackle it head on last week with an impromptu self portrait session. I pulled out a chair, set-up my tripod and lighting, set my focus and self-timer, played some loud music and rolled with it.
Slowly, I'm learning to embrace it. I love these images! I look like I'm having so much fun & I know I don't give a flying shoot about my double-chin. THAT is what makes me love these photos and encourages me to continue on the journey to love myself!

Nobody is perfect, we all have our insecurities. We see celebrities and influencers on TV, on social media and in magazines who look flawless and seem to have this perfect life. But they have insecurities too!
We are all human, we all dislike things about ourselves. Some people hide their insecurities, but others take control of them by talking about them. Everyone has a different coping process.

Regardless of our insecurities.... we are all beautiful. We all have people in our lives that love us, that think we are beautiful and want to see us succeed.

Let's share our insecurities & spread love to those who do, because being apart of a supportive community is far better than feeling as though you have to do it alone!

Natural Light Portrait Workshop https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/4/natural-light-portrait-workshop I attended a workshop in at Newcastle a few weekends ago, it was hosted by Warren Marshall. The workshop focused on natural light and how to use it to your best advantage.

Warren is awesome! He is so educated and experienced when it comes to photography, plus he cracks everyone up as he shares with us.

At this workshop, Warren set up a group of models to attend for us photographers to put our new knowledge to practice. The photographers worked our way around the scene and chose where we wanted to shoot.
The models we had were so laid back and kind. Each photographer had different ideas in mind for what they wanted their shots to be. It was interesting to see how each person conducted their shooting as well as their final images posted online a few weeks later. Each photographers creativity and individual style showed in the images, resulting in so many different final images even though we shot the same scenes and models.

Workshops are a great way to meet new photographer friends too. I've met some funny and talented friends through photography. When you absolutely love doing something, it's amazing to share the passion and excitement with people who love it too!

As photographers, we never stop learning. There is always something to learn or try. Whether it be a new trend, a new piece of equipment or exploring our creative mind. Photography has become such a huge part of my life. I am so excited to keep learning & growing as a photographer and as an individual.

Moate - Extended Family Photoshoot https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/4/moate---extended-family-photoshoot Before Christmas, I received an enquiry for an extended family photoshoot gift voucher. I personally know the Moate family and was excited to provide the gift voucher and do their session!

The day of their session, the Moate family were calm, excited and ready to have fun! It was the perfect sunny day matched with a cool breeze. We started with the 'boring' posed shots and then ran amuck at the location. Little 'D' was so photogenic, although not always happy to have her photo taken (cue D crankily sniffing the flower! lol).

We sent the morning excitedly roaming the location, laughing and dancing. I could not have asked for a smoother, more exciting extended family session!

Family Maternity Session - Rebecca https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/4/family-maternity-session---rebecca Rebecca contacted me, super excited to get book a Family/Maternity Session for her second bub.

Rebecca had a very specific idea in mind for her session. I was more than happy to help her bring her idea to life, and we did! We made our way to a beautiful little creek location surrounded by bushland. As we arrived, the sun was setting perfectly and we jumped straight into shooting the gorgeous, tight knit family unit.

The session was all laughs, tickles, smiles, snuggles and her daughter kissing Rebecca's baby bump.

I was so excited to send the final images! Rebecca and her family absolutely loved their gallery!

The afternoon was humid and sticky, but we all made the most of it, laughed a lot and I got some beautiful shots. I'm so excited to be doing Mothers Day Mini's this year! But I'm even more excited to grow my business and photograph some more beautiful smiling faces!

Wedding - Second Shooting https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/2/wedding---second-shooting I have been second shooting weddings with Roger, from ArtyJ Photography since early 2020. The weddings have been held in the Hunter Valley, right next to the rows of stunning, blooming wine grape vines with amazing mountain views behind them.

This wedding was so beautiful! The couple were older and so in-love. It was so heartwarming to watch their love shine through, despite the 35+degree Aussie summer heat, on their wedding day!

'Murray' Family Reunion https://www.paigepearson.com.au/blog/2021/2/murray-family-reunion Just before Christmas, I travelled up the coast to a beautiful small park next to a beach to photograph the Murray family's Family Reunion. Due to the deteriorating health of their hilarious grandfather, the family decided to have an extended family reunion.

The weather was overcast but the reunion wasn’t affected one bit. The day was filled with laughter, wild stories and lots of hugs and embraces. I felt so honoured to be able to photograph their family at such an important time in their lives!

Sadly, their grandfather passed away in January. RIP Ken!
